Legacy Grants for Student Health Breakfast

Celebrates 2025–2026 Recipients and Expands Support for Student Wellness

On Thursday, September 25, 2025, AcruxKC hosted its annual Legacy Grants for Student Health (LGSH) Breakfast at Broadmoor Bistro, bringing together nurses, administrators, and partners from across the Kansas City region to celebrate the 2025–2026 grant recipients.

This annual event provides a meaningful opportunity to connect, share experiences, and discuss new ways to improve student wellness. In response to ongoing conversations with schools, AcruxKC expanded the grant categories this year to include Student Health & Health Education Services & Supplies, ensuring broader support for programs that enhance both physical and mental health education for students.

Previous funding areas — including Asthma Assessment & Treatment Supplies, Health Screening Equipment, Mental Health Intervention Training, Emergency Response Equipment & Training, and Disease Mitigation Equipment & Supplies — continue to serve as the foundation for improving health outcomes and readiness in schools across the metro.

Attendees also heard stories from recipients who shared how grant-funded equipment and training have strengthened their ability to respond to student health needs. One school shared how a LifeVac anti-choking device provided through the program was used when a student began choking. After initial attempts with the Heimlich maneuver were unsuccessful, the LifeVac device safely cleared the student’s airway, allowing for a full recovery. Another school shared how an AED supplied through program funding was utilized for a student athlete experiencing a cardiac emergency — saving their life.

These powerful moments serve as reminders of how vital preparedness and access to the right tools can be in ensuring student safety and well-being.

As AcruxKC continues to listen and adapt to the evolving needs of our community, the Legacy Grants for Student Health program remains focused on empowering schools with the tools they need to create healthier, safer learning environments.
