The Medicaid Access Preservation Initiative funds one-on-one Medicaid enrollment and renewal staff at Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, KC Care Health Center, and Swope Health.
AcruxKC launched the Medicaid Access Preservation (MAP) Initiative to support full-time staff positions at three Missouri federally qualified health centers (FQHCs): Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, KC Care Health Center, and Swope Health. In total, $450,000 was awarded across the three centers for staff that will provide one-on-one assistance to directly help patients with enrolling in and maintaining Medicaid coverage.
New Medicaid rules took effect in October 2026, and additional changes are expected in January 2027. As more Missouri families face uncertainty around eligibility, the need for community health workers and enrollment navigators is increasing. MAP directs resources to these positions at three centers where that work is already underway.
"A gap in coverage can quickly become a gap in care. It creates a snowball effect that puts both patients and health centers at risk," said Beth Radtke, executive director at AcruxKC. "Following discussions with FQHC leaders, AcruxKC launched MAP because staying covered shouldn't depend on who can navigate the process alone. We are investing in the people who sit down with patients and see them through each step."
